How to Relaunch a Self-Published Book
A relaunch is not simply announcing the same book again. It is a coordinated correction when the existing package does not represent the book clearly or several retail elements need to change together. Some books need a relaunch; others need one focused adjustment and time to collect better evidence.
When a relaunch may be justified
- The cover strongly signals the wrong genre or audience.
- The description and metadata contradict the manuscript.
- A series lacks recognisable visual or positioning coherence.
- Production defects materially affect the reading experience.
- The book has been substantially improved and the retail package no longer represents it.
When not to relaunch
Do not rebuild everything because of a short period of low sales, one advertisement without conversions or a general feeling that the book needs “more marketing.” If the existing cover and listing are coherent, a relaunch can erase recognition without solving discovery.
Audit before changing
Capture the current state: cover files, description, keywords, categories, price, formats, A+ Content, series page, recent traffic and sales context. Identify the evidence supporting each proposed change.
Sequence the work
- Confirm whether the manuscript itself needs correction.
- Lock positioning and the intended reader.
- Develop or adjust the cover.
- Rewrite the description and metadata to match.
- Prepare any print wrap after the final interior page count.
- Coordinate series and A+ Content changes.
- Update files and verify every format.
Avoid changing the cover before the new positioning is clear. Otherwise the visual design may solve the wrong problem.
Set honest measures
Record the launch date and exactly what changed. Watch visibility and conversion indicators over time, but do not promise a rank, sales level or review outcome. A cleaner package improves the conditions for reader fit; it cannot control demand or platform behaviour.
Build the relaunch brief
Prepare the live listing, original source files, current metadata, manuscript status, reader description and the reason you believe a relaunch is needed. Hatti's Book Relaunch Service reviews those layers and recommends a scoped plan while the author retains account control.
